Typical

Weekly Schedule

The unique character of St. Isidore’s College requires a unique schedule.

Most days, students will be busy praying, studying, or laboring with colleagues from 7:30am until 5:30pm. (For more information about a typical day at St. Isidore’s, see our Daily Schedule.)

Such a regimented schedule leaves less time for labs, extended reading, and homework than may be possible on a regular class day. Therefore, no regular classes are held on Wednesdays (only Choir and Orchestra). Also on Wednesdays, members of the college may be required to complete certain chores or labs and are still expected (though not strictly required) to meet for prayers, meals, and special events (such as guest lectures). But most of the time devoted to classes on other days is open for study and leisure on Wednesdays.

Following the longstanding tradition of the Church, Fridays are days of fasting and penance, so common meals are meatless on Fridays, and we may save particularly onerous tasks around the farm for Fridays.

As on Wednesdays, on Saturdays members of the college are still encouraged to meet for prayers, meals, and special events, but no one is required to perform any duties beyond necessary chores on Saturdays. Therefore, students should have ample time for study and leisure on Saturdays as well as Wednesdays.

Sundays are a day of rest. Therefore, no one is required to perform any duties beyond necessary chores on Sundays, which still begin with Morning Chores at 7:45am. On Sundays, Mass is offered at 8:30am, a festive brunch is held at 10am, and a light tea is served at 3pm. Members of the college are encouraged to complete as much of their academic reading and homework as possible by Saturday evening to allow for truly restful Sundays.
