Sabbaticals

We believe that a farm is a great place for a college professor to spend a formal sabbatical–or for anyone to spend some time on a retreat that is intellectual (even academic) as well as spiritual and physical. During all phases of our programming (presumably beginning with smaller-scale programs like Study Afield and the St. Isidore’s Gap Year before progressing to the St. Isidore’s Junior College and the four-year, fully residential St. Isidore’s College), no matter what else is happening on the farm, we hope to host professors (as well as other academically-inclined individuals) on the St. Isidore’s campus for formal sabbaticals (or less formal, long-term academic/intellectual retreats).

Our campus is an ideal place to spend a sabbatical because it offers beautiful views and walks, meaningful physical labor, space and time to read and write, as well as engaging interlocutors in the students and faculty. For a few more of our thoughts about sabbaticals, see our little essay “Sabbath on a Farm.”
